Huston's Self Portraits

Mother's Day 2009 Part 2

Mother's Day 2009

We spent Mother's Day teaching our Sunday School class and then meeting up with Kathryn, Jimmy and Mimi (she came to town to be at the Mother Daughter Tea). It was nice seeing her and catching up. We had lunch at Oak Hills Country Club for the big buffet... stuffed ourselves, again. For Mother's Day- the kids and Clark got me a new camera! I was very excited! I am still trying to get used to it and figure it all out. Huston has taken a liking to photography. He enjoys taking our camera and snapping shots. He is actually pretty good about it too. He has a good eye for a 3-year old. He took the camera out while we were eating lunch and took pics of Mimi (and her corsage we bought her), Emery (saying cheese) and even our waiter! When we were leaving, we were waiting for our car at the valet and Huston was snapping photos of all the other people waiting for their cars as well. They were even posing for him! It was quite humerous. They were all getting a kick out of Huston taking their picture. He would hold the camera out at them and tell them to say cheese. Then snap- he would take the picture and look at the pic and say "good job" or "I got it". I guess my "old" camera is now his...

Mother Daughter Tea Part 2

Mother Daughter Tea

This is my second annual participation in the Mother Daughter Tea that our church hosts the Saturday before Mother's Day. Each table (seats 8) has a hostess (me) who chooses a book and decorates her table according to the theme of the table. For instance, last year I chose the book- The Picky Princess. I had the table decorated with fine china, silver, goblets representing princess utensils. This year the book I chose was The Goodnight Train. Kathryn also hosted a table and her book was Big Words. We got together on Friday and made cupcakes. I decorated some kids who were alsleep ( goodnight) and Kathryn made some fun sunflowers and grass filler cupcakes. She also decorated some that mirrored her guests that would be there. They all turned out so cute!! The day if the event was fun. We got there super early so we would have the best tables and to start decorating. This was the first time that I paper mached anything. It was pretty easy- just time consuming. My mom came over one afternoon and helped me out. She is an "old" (no pun intended) pro at this hobby. Apparently she has done lots of paper mache items in her day! Huston "lent" me one of his trains. It was so fun- the sky is the limit!! I already have my book for next year and I have bought items for it!!

Muffins with Mom

Thursday, May 7th- Huston's classroom hosted a Muffins with Mom before school started. Huston chose a BIG chocolate chocolate chip muffin for us to enjoy. Emery made herself at home and sat down next to Huston and started drinking someone else's juice. Oh well! This will be Huston's last few days at Concordia- Tiny Tots. We will sure miss that school. The teachers and staff are wonderful. They don't have school times condusive to our schedule for next year. Huston and Emery will be attending University United Methodist Day School (located at our church) on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I will miss taking Huston to school at 9:30am while next year we will have a father drive and they begin school at 8:30am!! Next year will be our LAST year not to have school everyday. After this next school year I will be taking kids to school every day of their childhood (until they leave me for college). I don't want to start thinking of Huston in kindergarten- I might tear up!!

Black & White

This was the 4th Black & White Golf Tournament at Oak Hills Country Club that Clark and Jimmy were involved in and the 2nd time we have been to the closing of the festivities- the gala. Last time we went I was pregnant with Emery- now she is almost 2. I have to admit, it is a hard time of year for me because I am dubbed as the "golf widow". Each year Clark has to begin golfing about 1-2 months before the tournament (by golly they will win one year!) Then the week of the tourney I am on my own with 2 munchkins. However... this year they actually won something. I am not sure what- who cares, Kathryn and I got some cold hard cash from their earnings. The boys were generous enough to share or either that they felt it was a peace prize to shut us up for next year's tourney! It was a fun night- we ate (stuffed ourselves), we drank (some of us couldn't make it to church the next day) and we danced (shook our booties a lot) the night away!

Maybe next year Kathryn and I could get a higher pay-out from the earnings... perhaps $100's (that would be nice).

Once this tournament is over I am reminded of what is to follow.... another golf excursion for Clark in South Carolina in late May (more weekends gone to practice!).

Peek-a-boo

We were about to put the kids to bed, but Emery went to "hide". This was her hiding spot. Pretty well hidden... huh??

MOPS Baby Shower

On May 2, my table leader at MOPS, Sara White had a shower. There were five of us that helped put it together. It was a pretty low-key set-up before hand and it turned out to be one of the best showers that I have been too. I have been so blessed by all my MOPS friends. We will be welcoming baby Carter White in early June! Congrats Sara!!

Our New House.... (not literally!)

The kids have a new playhouse in the yard that my dad (Grandpa Bob) and Clark put together one night. The kids love it! Here are the "guys" putting together the house.

Arrr! Ahoy Birthday Matey!

April 22 is Jimmy's b-day but we celebrated on the 25th of April. Kathryn made dinner at her house and then presented Jimmy his b-day cake that Huston picked out just for him. Huston went with Kathryn a couple days prior to the event to pick out his cake. Huston wanted the pirate cake so Jimmy had a pirate themed b-day party. Everyone got into "character". It was fun! The kids had a great time! Emery LOVED the cake and ice cream!

Strawberry Pickin' Day

On Saturday, April 25, we decided to go to a strawberry farm to pick some berries. Our family friends, the White's, were coming along too. The first place we chose didn't have anymore strawberries left after a busy week and we chose the next closest farm. This farm was about an hour and a half away. We all decided that this was going to the the place to pick our berries and we loaded up our cars with snacks, drinks and lots of entertainment for the kids! Even though it wasn't a long car ride, I wanted to be prepared...just in case. After waiting for Terri to finish getting ready (15-20 minutes after the projected time to leave) we were off! In our car we had Megan so the kids would be distracted with each other. It was a beautiful drive north on 281 and unusually busy- a two lane country road all the way to Marble Falls to the Strawberry Farm. We had been on road for hour when 2-3 cars ahead of us a truck started to lose control and swerve into the other side of oncoming traffic. Bam! It was a terrible accident! I was praying so hard and thanking God it wasn't us. Fortunately Tom (who is a volunteer firefighter/paramedic) was in the car behind us and was able to assist immediately. Thank God we were not hurt but THANK GOD Tom was around to assist otherwise those people would have been much worse off than they were (Thanks, Terri for being late!). I cannot handle blood, etc very well so I put all the kids in the car with me and kept them entertained while Clark was guiding traffic and Terri was able to get things that they might need from Tom's car. After three ambulances and two airlife helicopters Terri, the kids and I left. They shut the highway down and we were stuck there for about 45 minutes. Apparently the couple that were hit were from Horseshoe Bay and were coming to SA for a nice weekend get-away. Tom said he would be surprised if they even made it alive. We found out later that afternoon that the wife had three operations already and the husband was in critical condition that they weren't sure if he would make it if they were to operate. It just all happened so fast! Once the highway was back open we left- just in time because I was running out of things for the kids to do! They ate all the snacks I packed, all the drinks and watched enough TV that they were bored of the TV. Needless to say we didn't make the strawberry farm! What a busy morning!

(Most pics we took are too much to post...)
